How can we help?

Answers to the questions we expect most. If yours isn't here, write to hello@mawqut.app.

Prayer times

The prayer times look wrong

Calculated times are estimates, and mosques differ. Mawqut's “Times look wrong?” helper in Settings shows exactly what it is using. Check these in order:

  • Location or city. Make sure the city shown is where you are. If you use your location, open Mawqut once after travelling so it can update; if you picked a city, choose the new one.
  • Calculation method. Mawqut picks a default for your country, but your mosque may use another (for example Moonsighting Committee, ISNA, MWL, Umm al-Qura, Diyanet or JAKIM). Ask your mosque which one, and choose it.
  • Asr (madhab). Hanafi Asr is later than the standard (Shafiʿi, Maliki, Hanbali) Asr. Choose the one you follow.
  • High latitude. In places like the UK, Canada or Scandinavia in summer, Fajr and Isha depend on the high-latitude rule (middle of the night, one-seventh of the night, or twilight angle). Try the rule your mosque uses.
  • Adjustments. To match your mosque's timetable exactly, adjust each prayer by up to 30 minutes either way.
  • Time zone. If your iPhone is set to a different time zone from the place you chose, Mawqut shows both. Check Settings › General › Date & Time.

Still wrong? Email us the city, method and madhab you chose, the prayer that is off, and the time your mosque gives. We never need your exact location.

A notice says my times use a fallback latitude

Near the poles there are days with no sunset or no sunrise, so some prayers can't be calculated the usual way. On those days Mawqut uses the times for latitude 48.5° on your longitude, and tells you so. Please follow your local mosque or community.

The adhan didn't sound
  • Check that notifications are on for Mawqut in Settings › Notifications, and that the adhan is on for that prayer in Mawqut's settings.
  • If your iPhone is on silent, the notification is delivered without sound.
  • A Focus mode can hold notifications back. Turn on “Adhan breaks through Focus” in Mawqut's settings if you want the adhan to come through; it is off by default.
  • Open Mawqut every few days so it can schedule the next round of notifications.
The qibla compass arrow is missing

The arrow appears only when your iPhone's compass is reliable. Move away from metal and magnets, remove a magnetic case, and move your phone in a figure of eight to calibrate. The bearing in degrees from true north is always shown, so you can also use it with any compass.

Salah Lock

The lock didn't appear at prayer time

Check these:

  • Screen Time permission. The Lock tab says if permission is needed. See the next question.
  • Apps chosen. If the Lock tab says “Choose apps”, nothing is selected yet.
  • That prayer is locked. Check which prayers are switched on in the Lock tab.
  • Excused or travel days. On a day marked excused the lock pauses; in travel mode it follows the combined prayer windows.
  • Open Mawqut once. Mawqut sets up the next 48 hours of shields each time you open it. After a restart, an iOS update or a long time without opening the app, opening it refreshes them.

Screen Time is controlled by iOS and can occasionally lag, especially in Low Power Mode. If it keeps happening, email us your iOS version and what you saw.

“Screen Time permission needed” won't go away

Salah Lock needs Apple's Screen Time permission, which only the person who controls the iPhone can grant.

  • Check that Screen Time is available in Settings › Screen Time.
  • If this iPhone is a child's device in Family Sharing, the parent or guardian may need to allow it. If it is managed by an employer or school, Screen Time may be restricted.
  • Then tap the permission button in Mawqut's Lock tab again.

Everything else in Mawqut, including times, adhan, the Qur'an, qibla, the log and Ramadan, works without Screen Time permission.

I tapped “Open Mawqut” on the shield and nothing happened

iOS doesn't let a shield open another app directly, so Mawqut sends you a notification. Tap it to go straight to logging your prayer. If notifications are off, open Mawqut yourself; the unlock is waiting.

I need an app now

You are never trapped:

  • Not now. Snooze the shield for 10 minutes, up to twice per prayer (unless you turned on strict mode).
  • Emergency unlock. Available in the Lock tab, with a cooldown between uses.
  • Turn Salah Lock off. Switch it off in the Lock tab; your apps open right away.
  • Remove Screen Time access in Settings › Screen Time, or delete Mawqut. Either removes all of Mawqut's shields.

Please don't lock Phone, Messages, Maps or any app you might need in an emergency.

Ramadan and the Hijri date

Ramadan starts on a different day in my country

Countries decide the start of the month differently: by the Umm al-Qura calendar, by a calculated calendar, or by local moon sighting. For Ramadan 1448 that means 7, 8 or 9 February 2027.

Mawqut uses the Umm al-Qura calendar by default. To match your country or community, set the Hijri date adjustment in Mawqut's settings, from −2 to +2 days. On the evenings Ramadan may begin, Mawqut also asks “Has Ramadan begun where you are?”. The Ramadan challenge, suhoor and iftar times and Eid all follow your adjusted date.

I started the Ramadan challenge late

You start from today. Mawqut can also make a catch-up plan that spreads the juzʾ you missed across the remaining days, if you want one.

Purchases

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Mawqut's settings, go to the subscription section and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you bought Mawqut+ with. If Apple finds nothing, Mawqut says “No purchases to restore”.

Waiting for a parent to approve with Ask to Buy? Mawqut shows “Waiting for approval” until they do.

How do I cancel Mawqut+ or get a refund?

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Mawqut+. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Apple handles all billing and refunds; to request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

How do I delete my data?

All of Mawqut's data is on your iPhone; we hold none. To erase it, delete the Mawqut app: touch and hold its icon, tap Remove App, then Delete App. iOS removes the app's storage and its App Group data, including your prayer log, settings and journal.

Your iPhone's iCloud or computer backup may still contain a copy until that backup is replaced. Manage backups in Settings › your name › iCloud.

To withdraw permissions without deleting the app, go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services, Settings › Screen Time, or Settings › Notifications.

Will my log move to a new iPhone?

Mawqut has no account or sync. Your data moves with an iPhone backup and restore (iCloud or computer), or a Quick Start transfer. Your Mawqut+ purchase is tied to your Apple Account; use Restore Purchases on the new phone.
